Minnesota counties are required by state law to manage solid waste in a manner that protects the state’s land, air, water, and other natural resources as well as public health by ensuring that certain reduction, separation and recovery, resource recovery, and proper disposal methods of solid waste generated is set forth.
The Sherburne County Solid Waste Management Ordinance (PDF) was adopted to meet these requirements and regulates facilities that accept, manage, and dispose of solid wastes of every type through licensing, inspections, and enforcement. Sherburne County works closely with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) on regulation of solid waste facilities.
The Ordinance also regulates solid waste on residential properties in the County.
