Inmate Phone, Email Provider & Mail

Inmate Phone System:

NCIC Inmate Communications offers Friends and Families Prepaid Calling Service allowing incarcerated persons at Sherburne County to stay in contact with loved ones. No incoming calls can be received. Each inmate will be given access to the telephone upon the completion of the booking process. Telephones for private use are located in each housing area.

Inmate calls (local and long distance) are billed at a per-minute rate, with no connection fees. International calls are also billed at a per-minute rate. Three-way calls are prohibited.

Inmate Voicemail: Friends and family can leave a voicemail for inmate/detainees at the Sherburne County Jail by calling 800-943-2189 and following the prompts. The friend or family member must have previously been called by the inmate/detainee in order for the voicemail feature to be available. The cost of a voicemail is $1.50 for up to 3 minutes. All voicemails may be monitored or recorded

Inmate Mail

All mail coming into the Sherburne County Jail will be processed through the U.S. Postal Service. All correspondence and paperwork that requires an inmates signature must be delivered through the U.S. mail. 

Mail addressed to an inmate who has been transferred or released will be returned to sender. Incoming certified or registered mail for inmates will be processed as other mail and will be signed for by jail staff. 

Inmates/Detainees are not provided with the original contents of their mail. Mail and all its contents will be disposed of after 30 days.

INCOMING MAIL GUIDELINES (Effective 4/11/2022)

All incoming mail must adhere to the following incoming mail guidelines. Any mail not adhering to the general correspondence rules, or containing prohibited items, will result in the entire mailing being considered contraband and returned to the sender; If no return address is available, the entire mailing will be destroyed.

INCOMING GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE RULES:

• Limit of 4 photographs per mailing (no larger than 4” x 6”)
• No piece of the correspondence may be larger than 8 ½” x 11” 
• Each mailing may contain no more than 5 pieces/items to be copied/scanned (Example: 1 card, 2 pictures and 2 pieces of paper = 5)
• Inmate/detainee’s name and SPN must be on the front of the envelope (Use name on record at this facility)
• Sender’s name and address must be on the front of the envelope (top left corner)
• No boxes, padded envelopes, plastic bags, multi-layer packaging, envelopes that include metal parts, any package containing bubble wrap or packing peanuts, or card stock type envelopes (i.e. U.S. Mail Priority or U.S. Mail Express cardboard type)
• Contents of the mailing will not encourage or instruct inmates/detainees in the commission of violating facility rules or gang/illegal activity, contain sexually explicit material, or be written in code. Contents that could be considered a threat to the safety/security, or the peaceful operation of the facility, will not be accepted. 

PROHIBITED ITEMS: (Please note: Items unable to be copied/scanned due to equipment limitations, will result in the entire mailing being returned to sender.)

• NO newspapers, magazines, or catalogs. No advertisements, solicitations or other 3^rd class bulk mail. Other incoming publications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine if they will be deemed contraband. 
• NO foreign substance(s) may be stuck to, spilled or sprayed on any part of the mailing. Items may not be stained or discolored.
• NO blank sheets of paper or envelopes, pre-stamped/addressed envelopes, address labels, postage stamps or other correspondence materials.
• NO CASH, personal checks, payroll checks, money orders, phone cards or gift cards. (Tribal checks and checks from other detention facilities or the United States Treasury will be accepted) 
• NO photographs depicting gang or illegal activity, showing full or partial nudity, containing lewd or sexually suggestive content, or exposing undergarments (this include lingerie). 
• NO cards that are musical, pop-up, larger than 8 ½” x 11” when fully opened or contain glitter.
• NO books, to include photobooks. Books must be ordered through Jail Programs by filling out a book order form.
• NO staples, paperclips, strings, ribbons, magnets, or any other objects attached to, or used to secure mail items together.

Inmate Messaging

You can now send messages and pictures which is quicker, easier and cheaper than sending letters through the mail. You can fund your Messaging with your current Inmate Telephone account or if you don’t have an account you can go to www.NCIC.com and set one up. Messages are $0.25 per Message and Picture Messages are $0.35 per Picture. There is no limit on how many messages and photos that can be sent to the inmates. All messages and pictures are screened and approved prior to the inmate receiving them. Picture attachments may not depict gang or illegal activity, show full or partial nudity, contain lewd or sexually suggestive content or show exposed undergarments (including lingerie). In addition, photos taken of the inmate/detainee during a video visit, social media posts and photo collages/thumbnail photos are not allowed.
