County VA Programs - Medical Center Transportation

The Sherburne County Veterans Service Office operates a 12-passenger van for the purpose of providing transportation to and from the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, for veterans who are unable to transport themselves. Additionally, we can arrange for transportation to the St. Cloud VAMC with volunteer drivers using their privately owned vehicles. This service is provided free of charge and is funded largely by Sherburne County and by donations.

Passengers must be able to travel on public transportation. We cannot accommodate persons who are wheelchair bound, unless they are capable of transferring themselves from the wheelchair to the van. Our policy does not permit our volunteer drivers to lift passengers into and out of the vehicle. We also cannot transport anyone with a serious or acute medical condition, as our drivers are not EMT trained.

Our veterans van currently operates Monday through Thursday for appointments at Minneapolis VA Medical Center between the hours of 9AM and 3PM. The van does not run on holidays, or weekends and is not used for emergencies. The van will pick up at designated locations throughout the county area. Only under special circumstances will this be deviated from.

A veteran may be accompanied by a family member if their physical or mental condition warrants an escort.

It is the responsibility of the veteran to schedule a ride with our office, no later than 48 hours prior to the appointment date. This is extremely important, because the schedule (pick up times and locations) will be confirmed with the driver and passengers by noon the day before the appointment.
