Family & Child Services - Custody Studies

Sherburne County Social Services provides court-ordered custody evaluations to families who are unable to resolve custody-related issues without court assistance. If you have a dispute with your child/ren’s other parent, contact an attorney for assistance in filing the necessary motions and scheduling a court hearing. Sometimes judges will require parties to participate in mediation before ordering a custody evaluation. The court will instruct the parties regarding mediation. You must have a written order from the court to begin a custody evaluation.

Once you receive a written court order for a custody evaluation, please contact Sherburne County Social Services at 763-765-4000 for further information on the custody evaluation process.

A sliding fee schedule is used to determine the charge for the custody evaluation. The court has the discretion to divide the charges in any manner that is deemed appropriate to each particular case.
