The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is a team of cross-trained officers to be utilized in various capacities as part of the entry/assault team, rescue team, arrest team, chemical munitions, marksmen/reconnaissance team. The ERU is often used in high-risk situations such as executing dangerous arrests or search warrants, barricaded suspects, hostage situations and in the event of major disturbances in the correctional facility.

The safety and preservation of all human life is the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office primary functional objective. The ERU team will accomplish this objective by acting as a Departmental Support Unit specifically trained and equipped to resolve critical high-risk situations.
