Services - Shooting Range and Training

Shooting Range

The Sherburne County shooting range and training facility was completed in May of 2005. This state-of-the-art facility was built to meet the increasingly demanding needs of the law enforcement community. There are two conference rooms set up for classroom activities and one of the rooms can also be used for teaching defensive tactics; it includes a built-in jail cell for teaching cell extraction.

Shooting Range

The indoor shooting range has 12 lanes, each of which is 50 yards long. For tactical training, the range can be set up to accommodate a 180-degree firing arc. All lanes can be used for full-auto weapons training. Lights, shooting distance and target movement can be controlled by individual shooters or by a single operator in the control booth. Lights, sirens and environmental variables can also be manipulated from the control booth.

The Sherburne County Jail Administration Office issues handgun "permits to carry" for residents of Sherburne County.

All Sherburne County residents who want to apply for a permit to carry a handgun must do so in person through the Sherburne County Jail Administration Office.

  • Be at least 21 years old and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Provide photo ID (driver's license, state photo identification card or valid passport with photo)
  • Provide proof of firearms training by a certified instructor per MN statute 624.714, sub. 2a
  • Submit a completed state application with the required documents, and cash or check for the appropriate Carry Permit Fee.
